Vegas Baby! and the WSOP trip

Ok, so as promised here is the rundown for the trip to the WSOP...

Ou flight took off late Thursday night, getting into Vegas around say 9pm (pst). After checking in, we head over to the RIO to get Dennis registered for the Main Event. It is now probably around 11pm and the line is 4hours long to register (as I was told by the attentdant)

We decide to register the next day instead of waiting around and head over to Caesars to play. Caesars is absolutely jammed up b/c of some celebrity poke thing going on, so we sit down at a 3/6 table.. I take the Kill pot table for more action, Griff is with me, Dennis is at a non-kill table, and V somehow gets to a N/L table? The list was like 12 deep for N/L... God I wish I had tits!

Everyone does extremely well at their table... except me. I was doubled up and just took three sick beats in a row to take me back to square.. I cashed out when we left for $199. -$1 of my buy-in

The next couple of days were filled with Poker Lifestyle show. This is the consumer trade show at the WSOP where poker related companies show their wears... Now, unlike previous years, On-line poker sites were not allowed. So much for Bodogs three story display with a bedroom and half naked chics to have a pillow fight with! (last year! True story!)

This year were some new companies, and categories added to the show. For one, Taylor Made, Calloway, and Nike golf all had large displays. Very cool seeing them there.

I went around the room seeing all the people I had to see with Griff in tow, while Veronica and Dennis went and took in the sights. Allin Energy drink had a booth and they gave us passes to their VIP party for Sunday night. We did our business and then off we went for some drinks and poker. Griff didn't make poker because of the drinks and he and V went clubbing with Zim. A friend from back east who moved to Vegas earlier in the year... Very cool individual I might add

Dennis and I headed back to Caesars and played for a while before calling it a night. The next morning, Dennis and I played the 11 am $60 tourny at the Trop (where we were staying). I ended up winning it (woot!) and meeting the rest of them at the pool afterwards.

Back to the show for another meeting and then over to a taco place on Flamingo that was reco'd by Brendan and his wife from Allin Magazine... Then a short walk to the palms where we all played 1/2 N/L for the rest of the night. I wasn't a big fan of the tables at the Palms. It is a beautiful place, with pretty tables, but between the bumper and the felt is a marble well where you keep your chips... its pretty but not conducive for playing with your chips. They fly all over, but I got used to it quickly.

I did very well in the first hour. I tripled up, partly from this hand... I am in seat one, and UTG. The dealer starts to deal the chips when a guy approached the table with his chips in a rack. The dealer asks him if he wants to be dealt in and he nods his head. I look down and see AA. It was a very slow table with lots of limpers, so utg, I let out $7. Fold to the guy, still standing up and stacking his chips on the table out of his rack. He calls, as does another 2 players.

The flop comes 2 4 5r... I let out $20, and Mr. still standing says $40. folds to me, and I rejack to $100. He looks at me, and mutters, "welcome to the table". He calls. Now he has about $50 left, and I say, before the turn is dealt, "what do you have? A 3? Well, I'm not folding now"... and let out his remaining chips... He calls the all in, and turns up A 5 (TPTK). I almost chuckle as the river comes another A, and he says "Aces up", and I show the AA.

He turns around and walks away... :)

Then Griff comes over and says, I have an NBA player sitting at my table... I go over to see and there is an empty seat, so I take it. The player is Ron Artest, who says that he watches poker like 24 hours a day, and wanted to try it, and that this was his first attempt at live play.

i must say that despite his past aggressions, he was absolutely the nicest guy I ever met. He called everysingle hand, regardless of the bet, and folded every single hand to a bet on any turn or river. I don't think I ever saw him show a hand. He stuck around for about another hour or so, and then took off shaking the hand of everyone at the table... Very cool dude! I ended up about $1200 on the night

I will post the rest of the story tomorrow as this post has gotten a little long in the tooth. Overall it was a very cool trip with the best part of the story to come...

Vegas Trip - Mookie - Bloggers

I just got back from the WSOP where we entered last years champion into the main event... I will post about that later...

But for now I am ranting....

If I ever see or hear another goddamn friggin donk ass punk little fucking blogger talk about anyones fucking game again...
nothing but friggin total idiots out there...

all I have seen is nothing but manipulation of stories about hand histories to make it look like they know what they are doing...

Guy wants to call a big preflop bet with 77, then decides to call off more when player behind jams all in committing more than half of his own stack.... What could you possibly think you beat? and the moron will probably post about how , "OH, I put him on a steal.. or a bigAce"
explain away you fucking tards!!! explain away...

Then another idiot puts all of his chips in against a raise and a reraise with K 10...

against my AK of course he catches every fucking 10 in the deck...

done for now... I will post about the vegas trip tomorrow

FTOPS #6 and Main event

I've been on a pretty sick run this last month as far as internet poker goes...

I haven't been a huge online guy, but its what people are doing, and its part of my business model so I've acquiesced to the trend... funny thing is that since the reversal of freedoms act got through the senate last November basically outlawing online poker, It has only seemed to get stronger. Which I love! Democracy at work!

Anyway, I've been playing a lot of tourny's lately, which I didn't do much of in the past... mostly cash games, and mostly PLO. I've done well in them. Well enough to have been able to transfer over $3,000 to friends so that they may feed their poker appetite...

Anyway, over the last month or so I have had some pretty good results...

- $5 90 person tourny's 2 wins 4 seconds and 3 final tables with one busto
- $20 45 person 2 wins 2 seconds 1 4th and 2 busto
- $20 90 person 1 second 1 3rd and 3 final tables
- $50 54 person 1 3rd 1 second and a busto

Riverchasers events 2 final tables with a second and 5th (or 6th) one was HORSE where I lost against AlCantHang and the lovely Mrs. Canthang

I took second in the Mookie last week basically donking off to Bayne_s because of getting a little apathetic to the cause and finally pushed with 10 J thinking he must be bluffing this time...

I also won back to back entry into the FTOPS #6 and the Main Event on Sunday... which is where the story begins

So the wife started back to work about 4 weeks ago. Part-time, and more so to give her a break away from the one short of a starting basketball team brood. She works mostly at night maybe twice a week and a Saturday. I've had good results with getting them to bed by 8 and having the night all to myself to play online poker or other degenerate things (such as work).

Last night was the FTOPS #6 which I qualified for in a $26 sat the night before. I was really looking forward to playing in this and actually doing well. I've been running pretty good lately and didn't worry about the AA getting cracked by 88 thing(which just happened to me in a $20 45)

I got all 4 into their sacks at about 8:30 and was amp'd up to have a nice relaxing night in front of the virtual ATM. The tourny started and I was greeted with a ton of railbirds stopping in showing their support, as well as a bunch of IM windows pinging me with words of encouragement.

then it happened...

The 2 year old (female) starts screaming at the top of her lungs about how she wants apple juice... So apple juice it is. I timed the hands out perfectly to be able to run into the kitchen, obtain a sippie cup, fill it with 100% apple juice, run up the stairs, throw it into her crib, and rush back down the stairs in time for the next hand (where I would be happy enough to see AA)... Only something got in the way...

The apple juice wasn't enough.. she wanted water, and then an actual apple. Trying to negotiate with a 2 year old, in a dark room, at 9:20 pm, is near impossible. I tried the drill instructor style "GO TO BED" with the mean look on my face which only resulted in more tears... I submitted to the actual apple request, but she didn't quite get that I couldn't pull it out of my butt, and had to actually leave the room to fetch it. Which made the screams worse than the sounds coming from a possum trapped in a snare.

As I rushed out of the room past the infants (male) room, I hear him screaming. I decide to attend to him later and get the apple and see if I can get a hand in between the travel. That's when I noticed the clock was on me with AA. As I dive into the couch to press raise, the timer counts down to zero and the big blue tab that says I'm Back pops up. (FOOK)

I obtain the apple and run back up the stairs to an ever increasing screaming match between two opponents who don't even know that they are competing. The 9 year old (female) looks out her door, looking exactly like my wife with an expression of scorn and says "what are you doing?, Laney is crying?" (as if I didn't already know that).. i basically tell her to shut up, and get back in bed, and step sideways into Laney's room with the apple as if it were the answer to all her prayers. TO NO AVAIL! mini wife is now inside the offenders room with arms crossed and tapping her foot... I decide to recruit her for help by saying, "Hey C, take Laney into my room and sleep with her on my bed"... She obliges and off they go. As they pass the boys room, she states the obvious that he is crying...

I grab him, and just reside myself in the fact that he will now be playing the tourny with me, on the couch, hopelessly falling asleep in my arms.

By the time i get back down stairs, it is quite obvious that I have missed about 20 minutes of playing time... Two IM boxes are up with frantic posts of "WHERE ARE YOU", and "DID YOU LOSE YOUR CONNECTION?" and other stupid friggin questions.

I fold for the next 30 minutes, completely card dead, while the boy falls asleep again, and while I hear the other two jumping rope above my head...

Break comes and I decide to put the boy back in his crib, and relegate the other two back to their own quarters. While doing so, the boy wakes back up, again with shrieks that would crack the plate glass in any local church. I grab him back up and try to rock him to sleep without success.

I don't make it back before the break ends, and I'm down to just over 1K. The IM's keep coming with questions of why am I not there, what is going on?, how do you blow this off like its a $50 tourny, and so on... which only enrages me more. I'm on the brink of needing a new laptop because I can only respond with one hand (the other is holding the boy) and I am pounding the keyboard with the fervor of a steel driving man.

I make some successful moves to get back up to a little over 3k. We are down to about 1500 players from 2551, and I pick up AK pre flop where I raise the pot of $560
folds around to the BB and he flat calls with 57o... flop comes 5 5 10, and I'm gone.

I didn't even give the hand a thought to do any type of analysis, but either way I'm gone because the turn came A and the river brought a K, so either way, with my short stack, the money is going in that hand. My only peeve was this guy only had about 800 more than me, and to flat call with 5 7 is just super donkish.. I wish he was in a wheel chair..

the point to this is that that was the only night the kids ever gave me an issue. The only night that I didn't want or need it.

So, the main event is on Sunday, and the wife and kids are off to the beach house on Saturday, so I'll be by myself. I look forward to peace and quiet and being able to focus on tournament I really want to do well in...

The Eagles, the boys, and the cheat

So i switched the usual Friday night game to Saturday, because the Eagles were playing the Saints, and figureed it would be a good way to watch and play in peace...

8 were scheduled to play, but only 5 showed up... The others wanted to watch the game first without any distractions, so we played without them...

Saying I absolutely killed it would be an understatement... 5 handed, I was dealt Aces 6 times, AK about 5, and marginal hands hit the shit out of the flop when I played them... (I craked Aces with K9 clubs, in the big blind, only because the bettor asked for my action)

one guy was particulary taking it hard. Prob down about $100 on the night, and was already on a $50 marker. He's not a good player... particularly tight, weak when he does get a premium starting hand, and is easy to outplay. But he seemed to have something stuck up his ass...

Towards the end, we started playing Omaha Hi P/L... I killed two pots when I hit a bigger FH to another players FH. But also donked off about $30 on the flop to two pot raises when I hit my set, and got repottted by 2 others who had flopped the nut straight... I got away from it, but still cost me $30.

Here is where it gets sticky. I call a pot raise preflop with A 5 K Q double suited, with 2 callers. Flop comes A 5 8... I pot bet, with both calling...

Turn comes another 5 I check, mr. t/w checks, and 3rd guy bets pot... I reraise pot which puts Mr. t/w all in... 3rd folds his trips, and we show down...

Of course I put t/w on 88... he never moves without the best hand, so it surprised me when he went into the tank for about 2 minutes.

He looks at my hand and said, I can't believe you didn't deal yourself Aces again. (I was dealing)...

It didn't strike me as a shot, but I did state that i was dead to two outs...
Bing bang boom, I burn and turn the Ace...

NOW... this fella is an olde gentleman... but he loses it like none I've ever seen. Says that if he can't win a hand like that, he doesn't deserve to play! and that he would no longer be coming here... Then he says it...

"If I didn't trust you, you'd be shot right now"... One of the other players told him to calm down a little, nothing happened, he saw me tear two off the top. Everyone else had lost that night. Two guys walked out broke, two walked out -$30, and I took it all... but to be called a cheater is rough... Normally, he'd be drinking bolgne milkshakes for the rest of the week, but I was so taken aback by the fact that it was this guy...

a retired guy, who enjoys life, loves the game, etc. etc...

I didn't address the accusation other than saying, listen, I wouldn't begin to know how to do what you are accussing me of, so go easy before you offend someone... including the others in the room...

It was the first time I really witnessed anything like it. I've seen guys accuse others of cheating before bu it always was from a guy who was just pissed off and being a dick.. no direct accusation... but this was different..

Anyway, it was a crazy night, and I think that I will invite him back.. We usually see around 40 different guys there in the rotation... about 9 per night, and he is usaually one of the steadys, but I'm not sure if I'll invite him back...

$25,000 Guarantee

I played in the Tilt $25,000 Guarantee last night at the request of a friend who happen to ping me via messenger about 10 minutes before. I was already playing a ring game, and sort of falling asleep so I agreed...

He asked to chop together whatever we took in, so I agreed to that as well. I normally don't like doing that but it was a small tourny ($24+ $2) and he tends to get far in these little tourny's with his very aggressive style.

we were mid way thru the tourny, (started with 1,800 players) and I watch him raise to $650, UTG...blinds were 100/200 at this point...

4 players go all in behind him, 2 of which have him covered... He pings and says he has AK.... I tell him he can't call, he says "really?", and yet he does anyway. Of course to AA, QQ, and the short had AQ.

He loves to state that he'll go broke with AK everytime. I think this is such a lack of experience. I see this in a lot of players who have less than 4 years of experience, and still think this game is about ego, luck, and position (because they read in a book somewhere that position is important)...

I am virtually card dead for about another hour. I'm really short, about 2k to the average of 5k...

I pick up 66 in 4th position.. I small stack UTG moves all-in. next to act calls (he is a big stack). I get really good odds here, and no way I survive another round of blinds.. I move, and big calls (with aces, or course)...

I went out around 300 or so, about 60 off of the money... I liked the tourny itself, and will probably play it more often.

On-line poker is basically new to the types I am playing with in the weekly home games. and they are having a ball... Alot are playing the mini SNGs for tokens to get into these large type events and are having good success winning the tokens...

I don't like the token sngs... Its easier for me to just pay the $24+2 to enter the tournament then to play an $8 sng to obtain the token....

First Post ever

Thanks to my man, Alcanthang, for getting me started on my blogging journey.

I look foward to starting the on-line tour that Al has so graciously agreed to set up, run, and manage...

I intend to hit this up on daily, or not so daily basis talking about poker, poker, and some more poker... and maybe other things as well...
